The number of registered deaths in England and Wales has fallen below the average for this time of year for the first time in six months, figures show.<\/p>\n

There were 10,987 deaths from all causes registered in the week ending March 12, down 605 deaths from the previous week, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.<\/p>\n

This is 511 deaths (4.4%) below the five-year average \u2013 the average number of deaths registered during this week between 2015-19.<\/p>\n

And it is the first time since the week ending September 4 that overall deaths have fallen below the five-year average.<\/p>\n

10,987 provisional deaths were registered in England and Wales in the week ending 12 March 2021 (Week 10).<\/p>\n
