The commitment made by Dominic Raab, the foreign secretary, to strengthen businesses\u2019 supply chain requirements under the Modern Slavery Act are welcome, if overdue (China\u2019s treatment of Uighurs amounts to torture, says Dominic Raab<\/a>, 12 January).<\/p>

For him to choose the situation facing the Uighurs in China to do so also seems appropriate, but it represents a blunt instrument for the task in hand. Fines for companies that refuse to issue modern slavery statements will increase the number of statements, but not necessarily their quality.<\/p> Continue reading...<\/a>\n
