PETA is celebrating the U.S. Department of Justice’s (DOJ) confiscation of every big cat protected by the Endangered Species Act (ESA) from Tiger King subjects Jeff and Lauren Lowe. Below, please find a statement from PETA Foundation Deputy General Counsel for Captive Animal Law Enforcement Brittany Peet, who appeared in the Netflix series:
There are no tigers left at Tiger King Park, and the Lowes’ reign of terror against threatened and endangered big cats may soon be over. If PETA has its way, these Tiger King villains will lose every other animal in their custody, too.
The DOJ’s lawsuit—which PETA has moved to join—relies on arguments from and a precedent set by PETA’s victorious ESA lawsuit against Lowe’s former business partner Tim Stark, which resulted in PETA’s confiscation of three lions from Lowe’s custody. They are now in good health at The Wild Animal Sanctuary in Colorado.
