The Permanent representative of Pakistan to united Nation Munir Akram Resigns but his resignation has not accepted so far, and it seems that Govt. has difficult to find better and experienced diplomat for UN.

According to source, Pakistan’s new Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto is likely to visit America and Mr. Akram is directed to continue his services unless completion of Bilawal’s visit.

In recent days, Pakistan’s former envoy to the United Nations Munir Ikram has formally resigned with the change of government in Pakistan, But his resignation has not been approved and he is working on his position.

Munir Ikram was appointed permanent representative by the previous Pakistan government (Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf) on a two-year contract.

It is a condition of the ambassador whoever nominated on contract, they have to resign with the change of government and it depends on the new government either it accepts the resignation or not.

Former Leading Ambassador Jamshed Marker served as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United Nations for 25 years, but he always used to resign with the change of government.

Munir Akram is considered one of the most capable ambassadors after Jamshed Marker and holds a prominent position among ambassadors around the world. The United Nations body itself has been using his services

Mr. Munir has many landmark achievements during his tenure but preventing India to becoming a permanent member of the UN Security Council, for which he has sided with many members, including Italy.

In addition, he has recently played a historic role in the United Nations regarding Islamophobia, If newly government doesn’t approve his resignation and direct him to continue his services as permanent representative it would better for Pakistan.

Ambassador Akram previously served as Pakistan’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York for six years between 2002 and 2008, after serving as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva for seven years from 1995 to 2002.
