It’s News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. First, they run through updates on the DOJ stepping in to block JetBlue’s takeover of Spirit Airlines, Oklahoma’s weed vote, Atlanta protests at the developing Cop City, Florida and Ron DeSantis finally stepping up for the Davids of the world (insurance companies) as they take on Goliath (citizens), and Israeli protests shift to the military, before they watch the beautiful labor action in France as unions shut down the country ahead of Macron’s attempts to extend the retirement age. Then, Sam and Emma parse through Biden’s proposed budget adjustments to secure Medicare’s future, from extending solvency by increasing the income tax cap to closing up loopholes, before confronting the inevitable right-wing backlash and what public funding the GOP is likely to hold hostage. Wrapping up, they emphasize why the backlash to successful welfare programs – from the CTC to Medicare – is actually about undermining the revelation that our economic system doesn’t actually have to function the way we pretend it does.

And in the Fun Half: Emma, Sam, and the MR Crew parse through Tucker Carlson’s investigative reporting that reveals that some non-violence occurred alongside the violence of 1/6, Russell Brand kills it as a critically non-critical centrist, and the team talks with Jack from Maryland and get an update from Cigil on the Nigerian election. They also tackle Kerry Lake’s VP chances, discuss Karine Jean-Pierre’s derisive comments towards Marianne Williamson, and Americo from Mexico calls in to bolster the show’s support for trans rights. Sam and Emma discuss why Michael Knowlesism must be eradicated from public life, plus, your calls and IMs!
