2.10 Connecting the Dots: Amplifying Collaborations of HRDs and Artists
2nd November, 16:00 – 18:00 pm, Room: Anggerik 1 & 2
Background: Asia, in recent years, has confronted unparalleled challenges to human rights and democracy. Events such as the military coup in Myanmar, the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, and the surge of violent nationalism in India stand as stark indicators of the region’s human rights situation. Human rights defenders (HRDs), the frontline of the human rights movement, often find themselves targeted for their work for accountability and change.
These defenders come from diverse professions – be they students, NGO workers, farmers, artists, academics, or others. Yet, they all share a common thread: a commitment to the protection of rights in their many forms.
Amid the diverse fronts of rights-based movements, various protection networks have arisen to support these initiatives. While the formation of new networks revitalizes civil society, a lack of robust collaboration could lead to the inception of isolated “network bubbles.”
Cross-sector collaboration is vital to foster a dynamic human rights movement, encouraging stakeholders to venture beyond their familiar territories. It is important to apply varied approaches to enhance collaboration for stronger protection of artists and defenders at risk. In this session, we will explore how we can amplify collaboration and uncover fresh pathways and strategies for alliance beyond traditional human rights circles.
Objectives
The main objective of this session is to amplify collaboration and uncover fresh pathways and strategies for alliance beyond traditional human rights circles.
